It’s been a big week here in Minneapolis for sports fans! The Timberwolves are now in the NBA playoffs and the whole world is watching to see where Charles Barkley will eat. When Anthony Edwards told the legend to “Bring Ya A**” the whole state took it as a call to action and sent Barkley their restaurant recommendations. Not to be left out, here are a few of my picks. If you are coming to town for the games, check out these Twin Cities faves, some classics and some new.
Diane’s Place - this is a new restaurant/bakery from the GOAT, Diane Moua. She has had an award-winning career as a pastry chef and now she is sharing not only her incredible pastry, but a menu inspired by the Hmong dishes she grew up eating. It is FANTASTIC!
Bûcheron - Another new restaurant I’m excited about. A mix of exquisite local ingredients and flawless preparation is a recipe for success. The steak I had was one of the best in town. The desserts were daring and delicious, something I get particularly excited about.
Myriel - This intimate gem of a restaurant is all about local flavors and highlighting what is uniquely Minnesotan. If the wild crowds of the game have you needing a quieter moment, then Karyn Tomlinson will sooth your soul.
Hai Hai - Pure fun and a party for your mouth. From the craft cocktails to the riot of bright flavors in her entrees, plus the simple, but surprising desserts, Christina Nguyen always hits it out of the park (or into the net. Maybe a hoop? - I get my sports metaphors confused). It may be the perfect bar to sit at to celebrate a win!
Animales BBQ - I can think of no better way to celebrate a game than eating the best BBQ in town from one of the greatest humans we have to offer: Jon Wipfli.
That’s my ‘Bring Ya A**’ to Minneapolis list.
If you’re having your own party for the game or looking forward to Memorial Day weekend baking, you’ll find some of my go-to recipes below. There are lots to choose from depending on your mood and cravings. I’ll be making my chocolate fudge recipe, which is both easy to make and sensational! It’s perfect to share at a party or you’ll find yourself working through the whole pan yourself, just speaking from experience! ;)
