Ice Cream, Sorbet + Cool Treats for Hot Days
I’m not sure who needs to hear this, but if you have an ice cream maker that’s gathering dust, NOW is the time to get it out and make homemade ice cream. I promise you it’s way easier than you think. It is so rewarding and so fun in the summertime. In this post you’ll find everything you need to know about making your own, plus a bunch of irresistible recipes to try.
Ice cream season coincides with sorbet season and it’s as simple as juice and a floating egg! Yep, once you add enough simple syrup to the juice an egg (in its shell and washed) will rise to the top when placed in the juice and then you’ll have smooth sorbet that freezes but isn’t solid as a rock or icy!
When the dog days of summer hit I find myself looking forward to cooler weather, fall flavors, and days of baking in the oven without worrying about heating up the house. To help live in the moment, I put together this list of some of my favorite summer treats. There’s still plenty of (hot) summer left and these cold desserts are tasty and fun treats to make without worrying about heating up your house (or yourself).
Rhubarb Desserts
There’s still time for rhubarb this season! Check out my list of sweet/tart rhubarb desserts while you still can. Pro tip: If you have more rhubarb than you can use, wash, dry and cut the stalks, then freeze it to use when you have a hankering for rhubarb when the season is behind us.
Best-Ever Chocolate Zucchini Bundt Cake
This is one of my most popular summertime recipes and I highly suggest you file it away for your zucchini harvest! As with any of my recipes, if you try it and love it, I would be so grateful if you left a rating and review.
Summer Pie
All the fruit filled, meringue topped (and bottomed), whipped cream dreamy, and/or chocolate drizzled pies you could possibly imagine are here in this list for your summer get togethers (or any old weeknight).
Peach Desserts
It’s fitting that peach season coincides with summer, because the fruit is bright, floral and fun, and to celebrate these tasty treats I put together a list of my favorite peach desserts. Each recipe showcases the peach flavor in its own way, and you’ll find pies, ice cream and so much more.
The ZoëBakes Shop
In case you missed it, I recently opened a shop with aprons designed by me and my son, Henri, as well as signed copies of my book, Zoë Bakes Cakes. You can also still purchase the recording of the Ukrainian Honey Cake class I did to raise money for World Central Kitchen and all proceeds will still benefit this wonderful charity.
There will be three new episodes of Zoë Bakes on Magnolia Network this month, airing Sundays at 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. ET! If you’re looking for the recipes from the episodes, you’ll find them all linked here:
