Top 10 Recipes of 2023
To wrap up the year, I put together a list of my 10 most popular recipes of 2023. As always, it’s an eclectic and fun list featuring all kinds of flavors. If you’ve tried any of these recipes, would you be so kind as to leave a rating/review? It helps other people find them more easily. Cheers to a new year!
The Year of Barbie Cakes!
When I was little, My Aunt Kristin had ALL the Barbies, and she’d let me play with them when I came to visit, but only under heavy supervision. She knew that if I was left on my own with the dolls, I would have cut their hair, altered the clothes, and put them in the splits. I was a “weird” Barbie kid, for sure. Eventually, I did have my very own collection of Barbies and got super creative with them. Watching the Barbie movie brought back all the memories of dressing them up and creating great adventures.
The movie also inspired two Barbie cakes for my friends Joy and Ann’s birthdays. Joy has curly red hair and loves a sparkle. I found the perfect ginger-haired Barbie and set out to make a cake to reflect her beauty and humor.
Ann’s cake was for her Champagne party, so I put her in an elegant buttercream party dress. Below I will walk my Extras subscribers through all the steps I took to make Joy’s sparkly bodice, sprinkle patchwork dress, and cotton candy tulle or Ann’s sophisticated Barbie cake. Both are made with Devil’s Food Cake since it has enough body to hold up under the weight of the large dress. You can use the Yellow cake or the Funfetti cake from my book, Zoë Bakes Cakes, as well. Be sure to double those recipes to have enough for all the layers.
