Exclusive Recipe: Chocolate Whiskey Biscoff Buttercream Cake

I created this cake for my dear friend, Stephanie March. It was in honor of her birthday and to celebrate a monumental career shift. A cake with elegance, swagger and a sense of humor was in order for our high priestess of food.
For those of you who watch my show, Zoë Bakes, you will recognize Stephanie from several episodes. We went apple picking, made pizza, ate corn ice cream and more. Stephanie has been the food editor at Mpls.St.Paul magazine, the co-host of the Weekly Dish radio show, a member of my Lady Brainers Sisterhood, a brilliant writer (check out her Substack, Pickle) and is considered the heart and soul of the Twin Cities food scene. She is the ultimate HYPE woman, endlessly promoting her community and lifting up those around her. I am grateful to call this kickass woman a friend and am thrilled to watch this new chapter unfold. She and I have a couple of things in the works I am BEYOND excited to share with you, SOON!
In some NYC circles Stephanie is known as “Whiskey” because she has an encyclopedic knowledge of the drink. She has traveled the world imbibing and learning its history and the process of making it. If you, too, are a whiskey lover, you can join her on an upcoming trip to Japan to discover their whiskey culture. I created a Chocolate Whiskey Biscoff Bar in my book, Zoë Bakes Cookies, inspired by Stephanie, so I borrowed from those flavors to create this cake. Layers of chocolate cake, ganache, and finished with Biscoff buttercream.
I made a quick video to show you how to do the zigzag pattern with buttercream frosting.
You can use the Hot Chocolate Cake or Devil's Food Cake layers for this cake. The Hot Chocolate Cake is lighter in flavor and texture. The Devil's Food is richer and denser and more intensely chocolate. To decorate the cake you'll need a cake turner*, offset spatula*, piping bags*, Ateco 825 large star tip*, and Ateco 821 small star tip*. (*affiliate links)
