If you want to know the best places to eat around the world, ask the people who make the best food where they’d go. That’s exactly what I did and here is the list of their favorite bakeries. My goal is to visit them all, from Ginger Hahn’s favorite patisserie in Seoul, South Korea to Cheryl Day’s recommendations in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Portland, Maine, plus all the best Minneapolis has to offer. It’s a great list, happy travels!
Andrew Zimmern, chef and TV host: My favorite bakery doesn't exist anymore, but it was Dumas, a French patisserie on Lexington Avenue between 88th and 89th Streets in New York City.
It was the one that I grew up in. It was around the corner from where I went to school for 14 years and almost every day after school, I would go around the corner. I ate my first mille feuille and my first eclair there and other things that just fascinated me. I had no idea food could be like that. Read Andrew’s Q&A.
Jessie Sheehan, cookbook author and recipe developer: I have a few, but I am going to go with Mah Ze Dahr in New York, NY. Read Jessie’s Q&A.
